– Churchyard of San Giuseppe
“Look out, look out, Mari,
Your son passes by
With a long, long and big basin
No swaggerers are there in a grave
The flesh has fallen and there are bones on it”
This is the drama of a weeping mother, and with her, all humanity weeps. It is the drama of the Man Jesus, brought closer to the people of San Cataldese through verses embedded in Sicilian folk tradition.
The laud "L'Urtmi uri di Cristu"—in Sicilian dialect—by the San Cataldese poet Bernardino Giuliana transforms every heartbeat of the listener into emotion and representation.
We truly encounter Christ because within us there is that human and divine element, that element of Judas and Jesus, of hate and love that represents the profound struggle between good and evil.
On Holy Wednesday, immediately after the trial of Jesus in Piazza degli Eroi, Christ, carrying the cross, walks along the main street escorted by soldiers and members of the Sanhedrin, then reaches Piazza San Giuseppe from Via Umberto. There, the sacred performance based on "L'urtimi uri di Cristu" will begin, reliving every moment of Jesus' drama.
The dramatization will be enriched with traditional San Cataldese folk songs, such as "U Signuri Lassa Lassa la catina," performed by the Diapason Vocal Group, directed by Maestro Gabriele Ferrara.
