The Trial – Holy Wednesday

April 1, 2026 7:00 pm

Description

Holy Wednesday in San Cataldo is one of the most profound expressions of the Holy Week, where tradition, spirituality, and popular theatricality blend into a single, intense collective experience.

The event opens in the late afternoon with the Historical Procession, an evocative parade that evokes the atmosphere of Jerusalem at the time of Christ: period costumes, horses, centurions and symbolic characters pass through the heart of the town, bringing the sacred narrative back to life in a popular key.

The most anticipated moment is the Trial of Jesus, a live performance that depicts the dramatic confrontation between Christ and his accusers. The Gospel story becomes theater, ritual, and collective participation: it is not simply a performance, but an act of faith experienced intensely by performers and spectators. Emotion flows through the dim lights, the expectant silences, and the ancient words that come alive again, restoring to the community the sense of sacrifice and redemption.

This day, more than a spectacle, is a civil and religious rite, a tradition that unites generations in the name of memory, culture, and devotion.
