The Gabbara forest is home to an ancient solfara (sulfur mine), which still features the descents into the heart of the mine, accessible via the "broken" staircase (to a depth of approximately 15 meters). The mining park also includes a series of explanatory panels describing life in the mines and the miners, including the exploitation of "I Carusi," children sold in exchange for debt repayment or for the survival of entire families.

The visit will conclude with the performance of some classical pieces about the life and suffering of the miners' families.

Piazza Calvario in San Cataldo: An Open-Air Museum of Faith and Ceramic Art.
Perched on one of the highest points of the town, Piazza Calvario represents the spiritual and monumental heart of San Cataldo. For over 150 years, this site has been the hub of Good Friday pilgrimages and the natural setting for the "Scinnenza," the evocative reenactment of the Passion and Death of Jesus.
A National Artistic Unique,
Piazza Calvario is not only a place of worship, but also a true national ceramics museum. Thanks to a collaboration with the "Associazione Italiana Città della Ceramica," the finest schools in Italy were selected to create the works.
Today, the site is the only monument in the country capable of uniting the highest artistic expression of 18 different ceramic traditions in a single context. Each panel reflects the techniques, materials, and cultural identity of its region of origin, making the square a complex of exceptional artistic value.
