[fbl_login_button redirect="" hide_if_logged="" size="large" type="continue_with" show_face="true"]San Cataldo has 18 churches, seven of which are parishes. Among these, the Mother Church is the seat of the Archpriest of San Cataldo and is located in various neighborhoods, often named after the church's dedication. Therefore, we have the Mother Church in the "A Matrici" neighborhood; "A Catina," the neighborhood where the church dedicated to the Madonna della Catena is located; "U Rusà," with the church of the Madonna del SS. Rosario; "U Cummentu," the church dedicated to the Madonna SS.ma delle Grazie (formerly a convent), and many others.
The churches of particular importance and included in the tour are: the Mother Church, in Piazza Mons. Aldo Naro; the Church of San Giuseppe, in the nearby square of the same name; and the Church of the Most Holy Rosary.
Furthermore, it is possible to visit the Church of the Holy Souls in Purgatory and that of St. Francis (former Capuchins) individually.
Other churches hold their own within the city of San Cataldo, but we'd like to highlight those that have played a particularly important role in the lives of the locals over time. We'd be happy to show you the beauty of San Cataldo.
Of great prestige is the Mother Church, located in the square now named after Monsignor Aldo Naro, whose remains are buried inside the church along with those of the Servant of God Marianna Amico Roxas and the Archbishop and Apostolic Nuncio Vassallo. A three-nave church, its size already lends importance to this place of worship, and its interior houses prestigious works of art from ancient times, including those by local artists. As the ecclesiastical center of the city, during Holy Week, the Mother Church becomes the heart of events.
Opposite it, another church of ancient workmanship is the Church of San Giuseppe, divided into three naves and decorated with stuccoes created by Ferdinando and Filippo Rini.
On the railing of the choir loft, four panels stand out with Saint Anthony of Padua, Saint Cecilia, Saint Gregory the Great and Saint Ambrose.
The Church of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary is located on the main street that divides the old, upper part of the city from the lower part (Corso Vittorio Emanuele). It features a bell tower with a clock, which, together with the Civic Tower, located in the upper part of the city, marks the time for the people of San Cataldo. Inside, we find the beautiful decoration of the vault of the single nave and the beautiful sculptures, among which those of Saint Sebastian and Saint Francis of Paola stand out.
In addition to the tour, the Church of San Francesco (Ex Cappuccini) will be open from Monday to Holy Wednesday, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, while the Church of the Holy Souls of Purgatory will be open on the same days from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
